What does a geotechnical investigation involve?

The scope of an investigation is tailored to the proposed development and anticipated site conditions. It may include borehole drilling, rock coring, test pits, soil and rock sampling, in-situ testing, groundwater observations and laboratory testing.

The findings are assessed by our engineering team and documented in a site-specific geotechnical report.

Do you provide Specialist Engineering Assessment (SEA) Reporting for Sydney Water?

  • NR Engineering Consultants prepares Specialist Engineering Assessment (SEA) reports and certification for developments located near or potentially affecting Sydney Water assets. Our team assesses the proposed works and provides the required engineering documentation to support the Sydney Water Building Plan Approval process. We have our own in-house geotechnical, civil and structural designers and verifiers as stated in Competency Standards of Sydney Water

Do you provide groundwater investigations and monitoring?

Yes. Our groundwater services include groundwater investigations, monitoring-well installation, data-logger installation, long-term monitoring, seepage modelling, groundwater take assessments, dewatering management reports, water licence application support. We do provide services for retaining wall movement monitoring using inclinometer installation.

The required scope will depend on the site conditions, proposed excavation and applicable regulatory requirements.

What civil engineering services do you provide?

Our civil engineering services include:

  • Road, earthworks and pavement design
  • Stormwater drainage design
  • On-site stormwater detention systems
  • Water Sensitive Urban Design
  • Erosion and sediment control plans
  • Public domain and driveway design
  • Flood studies and hydraulic modelling
  • Overland flow path reports
  • Flood compliance statements
  • Design reviews and optimisation

We can prepare civil engineering documentation for Development Applications, Construction Certificates and Complying Development Certificates.

When is a contamination assessment required?

A contamination assessment may be required when a property has a history of potentially contaminating activities, when a development proposes a more sensitive land use, or when requested by a council, certifier, regulator or site auditor.

The assessment helps identify potential contamination and determine whether additional investigation, remediation or validation is required.

Can you assist with council and certifier requirements?

Yes. We can prepare engineering reports, drawings and supporting documentation for Development Applications, Construction Certificates and Complying Development Certificates within our agreed scope.

All applications and documents remain subject to review and approval by the relevant council, certifier or regulatory authority.

How can I request a quotation?

You can request a quotation through our website enquiry form, by email or by phone. To help us prepare an accurate proposal, please provide the site address, a description of the proposed development, the required engineering services and any available plans or supporting documents.

Why might I need a geotechnical investigation?

A geotechnical investigation assesses the soil, rock and groundwater conditions beneath a site. The findings allow engineers to develop appropriate recommendations for foundations, excavations, basements, retaining structures, pavements and other proposed works.

A geotechnical report may also be required to support a Development Application, Construction Certificate or detailed engineering design.

What information is included in a geotechnical report?

Depending on the agreed scope, a geotechnical report may include:

  • A description of the site and proposed development
  • Details of the field investigation
  • Subsurface soil and rock conditions
  • Groundwater observations
  • Laboratory and in-situ testing results
  • Engineering design parameters
  • Foundation recommendations
  • Excavation and retaining wall advice
  • Excavatability requirements
  • Pavement design information
  • Construction considerations and recommendations

Do you provide foundation, shoring and retaining wall design?

Yes. We provide foundation, shoring and retention solutions for residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure developments.

Depending on the ground conditions and project requirements, our designs may include shallow or deep foundations, bored piers, piled foundations, reinforced concrete retaining walls, anchored walls, contiguous or secant pile walls, sheet pile walls, reinforced soil structures, and shotcrete and soil-nail systems.

Do you undertake slope stability assessments?

Yes. Our geotechnical engineers undertake slope stability and landslide risk assessments for sloping sites, existing developments and areas affected by erosion, retaining wall failure or ground movement.

The assessment may include a site inspection, subsurface investigation, engineering analysis and practical recommendations for remediation, stabilisation or ongoing monitoring.

What structural engineering services do you provide?

Our structural engineers provide investigation, analysis, design, documentation and construction support for projects of varying sizes and complexity.

Our services include reinforced concrete, structural steel and timber design, piling and underpinning, post-tensioning, temporary works, formwork, façade engineering, precast concrete panels, structural inspections, dilapidation surveys.

What environmental engineering services do you provide?

Our environmental services include:

  • Preliminary Site Investigations
  • Detailed Site Investigations
  • Contaminated land assessments
  • Soil and groundwater investigations
  • Remediation Action Plans
  • Site Validation Reports
  • Waste classification assessments
  • Environmental Management Plans
  • Construction Environmental Management Plans
  • HAZMAT and asbestos surveys
  • Underground storage tank assessments
  • Environmental monitoring

Our services are tailored to the site conditions, development proposal and applicable regulatory requirements.

Do you provide waste classification and HAZMAT assessments?

Yes. We provide waste classification assessments to help determine the appropriate handling, transport, reuse or disposal pathway for excavated soil and other materials.

We also conduct HAZMAT surveys and prepare registers identifying asbestos and other potentially hazardous building materials. Additional services may include risk assessments, management plans, technical specifications and support during removal or remediation works.

Do you assess and manage acid sulfate soils?

Yes. We provide field assessments for potential and actual acid sulfate soils, advice on handling and treatment, water-quality impact assessments, remediation recommendations and Acid Sulfate Soil Management Plans.

These services may be required were excavation, drainage or groundwater dewatering could disturb acid sulfate soils.

How long will it take to receive my report or design?

Delivery timeframes depend on the project scope, site conditions, required fieldwork, laboratory testing, design complexity and availability of project information.

An estimated timeframe will be provided in our proposal or confirmed when the project is commissioned.

Can you accommodate urgent project requirements?

Urgent services may be available depending on the project scope, site location and our current schedule. Please provide your project documents, required service and deadline so our team can confirm availability.
